Cara-Friend Youth

Lesbian? Gay? Bi-sexual? Trans? Or Questioning?

If you are aged between 14 and 25, Cara-Friend LGB&T Youth will have something to offer! Our groups are run according to a peer-led ethos, where young LGB&T people are our volunteer leaders. This means that everyone from the other attendees to the leaders are all in the same situation as you – whether that means you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary or questioning. The most important goal of Cara-Friend LGB&T Youth is for young people to be able to be themselves, however they might identify themselves. The groups are safe spaces where everyone can relax, meet new people and, most importantly, have some fun! There is a real community feel to our groups

Our flagship group is based in Belfast City Centre where we provide an open social space to meet other young people who are LGB&T or Q. It meets in the community room of the LGB&T Centre at 9-13 Waring Street every MondayThursday and Friday, from 6-9pm. Though Cara-Friend is located on the first floor of the building, it is fully accessible by stairs and an elevator. You must press the buzzer for the door to open, and this is located a little high off the ground, so if you have specialist access needs just contact us to let us know.

On Mondays we often run informative workshops related to personal development and building your knowledge on important issues like sexual health education, internet safety, identity issues, etc. These are delivered in a relaxed and fun way and start around 7pm. On Thursdays we run our very popular games night, where everyone gets involved in various card games and console tournaments. Fridays are simply for getting together and having fun in the safe space that is the community room

You’re more than welcome to come along and to bring a friend, if you like!

We also run a regional group in Ballymena which takes place every second and last Thursday of the month, from 5-6.30pm in the N-Gage Centre. It’s also fully accessible. We are working on developing more regional groups across Northern Ireland. Keep an eye on our website and social media for more information, coming soon.

Welcome to Cara-Friend LGB&T Youth, this is what we do!
