If you are aged between 12 and 25, Cara-Friend LGBT Youth will have something to offer! Our groups are run according to a peer-led ethos, where young LGBT people are our volunteer leaders. This means that everyone from the other attendees to the leaders are all in the same situation as you – whether that means you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary or questioning. The most important goal of Cara-Friend LGBT Youth is for young people to be able to be themselves, however they might identify themselves. The groups are safe spaces where everyone can relax, meet new people and, most importantly, have some fun! There is a real community feel to our groups
Our flagship group is based in Belfast city centre where we provide an open social space to meet other young people who are LGB&T or Q. It meets in the community room of the LGBT Centre at 9-13 Waring Street every Monday, Thursday and Friday, from 6-9pm. Though Cara-Friend is located on the fourth floor of the building, it is fully accessible by stairs and an elevator. You must press the buzzer for the door to open, and this is located a little high off the ground, so if you have specialist access needs just contact us to let us know.
We also run a regional groups in Ballymena, Cookstown and Lisburn. Ballymena Cara-Friend LGBT Youth takes place every second and last Tuesday of the month, from 6-8pm in the N-Gage Centre. Cookstown also meets fortnightly, on Thursdays, in the Cookstown Youth Resource Centre from 6-8pm. Lisburn meets in the local YMCA, also fortnightly on Mondays, from 4-6pm. All our venues are fully accessible.
You’re more than welcome to come along to one of our groups, and to bring a friend if you like!
